Effective 12 September 2026 · Applies to the DotTab Chrome extension

DotTab is a new tab page made of widgets. It is designed to keep your data on your device. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

What is stored, and where

Everything you configure — your layout, widget settings, tasks, notes, habits, your name for the greeting, timer state and cached weather/news data — is saved locally using Chrome's chrome.storage.local on your own computer. It is never uploaded to us. Removing the extension deletes it.

Network requests made by widgets

DotTab does not contact any server of its own. Some widgets fetch public data directly from third-party services, only when you add that widget:

WidgetServiceWhat is sent
WeatherOpen-Meteo (open-meteo.com)Approximate coordinates of your location (if you choose "My location") or the city name you typed
WeatherBigDataCloud (bigdatacloud.net)Coordinates, to display a city name when using "My location"
HeadlinesHacker News API (hacker-news.firebaseio.com)Nothing personal — a request for the public story list
TickerCoinGecko (coingecko.com)Nothing personal — the coin symbols you selected
Shortcuts, Top SitesGoogle favicon service (google.com/s2/favicons)The domain name of each shortcut, to fetch its icon

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. Requests contain no identifiers from DotTab. You can avoid all of them by not adding the widgets above.
