Effective 12 September 2026 · Applies to the DotTab Chrome extension

DotTab is a new tab page made of widgets. It is designed to keep your data on your device. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind.

What is stored, and where

Everything you configure — your layout, widget settings, tasks, notes, habits, your name for the greeting, timer state and cached weather/news data — is saved locally using Chrome's chrome.storage.local on your own computer. It is never uploaded to us. Removing the extension deletes it.

Network requests made by widgets

DotTab does not contact any server of its own. Some widgets fetch public data directly from third-party services, only when you add that widget:

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. Requests contain no identifiers from DotTab. You can avoid all of them by not adding the widgets above.

Permissions

storage — to save your layout and widget data locally.
topSites (optional) — requested only when you add the Top Sites widget, to display your most visited sites. This list stays on your device and is never transmitted.
Location — the Weather widget's "My location" mode uses the browser's geolocation prompt. You can decline and type a city instead.

What we do not do

No analytics, telemetry or crash reporting.
No browsing history collection. The new tab page does not see other tabs.
No selling, sharing or transferring of data to anyone.
No remote code — all code and fonts ship inside the extension.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
